shoemanic

30 Nov

lovelies, i need to confess that i have a shoe addiction.
the thing that gives me great strength, is knowing that i am not alone with my condition.
but at least i’ve come to admitting it. that’s the first step, isn’t it?

i honestly don’t know how many pairs of shoes i own. but i do know that it’s still in the double digits… i think… no, it is. maybe i should get down to counting them some day. but then again i might really freak out and recoil in horror at the sheer number of shoes that will be laying around the floor.
ah i dream of the day, when i can have a whole room just for my shoes. or a room big enough to fit my shoes and my clothes. just looking at some of the shoe closets of some celebrities makes me want my own even more!
take a look:

rachel zoe’s shoe closet

khloe kardashian’s shoe closet (that’s not even all of it!)

christina aguilera’s closet (home to about 750 pairs!)

just wow, right?
i can fit in my closet just about the shoes needed for spring/summer and fall/winter respectively. it has a couple of top shelves that are really high up, so i stow away the unseasonal ones up there. however, it is still a bit of a pain, because i do have to really wedge every pair in there, and stack them on top of eachother…  here is a picture of my closet during spring/summer. you can actually see my timberlands and winter sneakers in the top part, below and behind them are boots and uggs.

not much space left…

of course it doesn’t help that i wear a size 41- my shoes are by default quite big! that is probably a reason why i do have so many shoes, because my size is a bit harder to find, when i do spot one that fits, i pounce!
i made a bet with myself, that for the whole month of october i wouldn’t shop for anything. ruthlessly nothing. and you know what? i did it! i went an entire month without buying so much as a t-shirt, nothing! i rewarded myself by buying a pair of shoes in the first november week. bam!

so pretty, couldn’t just leave them. no.

now that i’ve shared my main addiction (yes, there’s a couple of minor ones that involve bags and jeans…), i want to hear from you! what can’t you resist buying?

halloween fever

30 Oct

lovelies, i’m excited!
tomorrow is halloween! definitely in my top 5 festivities/holidays, not just because of the mystique and ancient tradition it represents, but also because there’s costumes!
i’m a sucker for dressing up, my favorite kind of parties are the ones that have a theme, or require some sort of disguise.
this year i’m going as a witch. not too creative, but i’ve found the most adorable little witch hat, and i just had to get it. ergo, witch it is.
i’ll post a picture of my costume on thursday, i know you’re curious ;)
i’m so happy that europe is catching up with celebrating halloween, more and more clubs are throwing halloween parties, and people are really getting into it!
what are/did you dressing up as?

n another note, i’ve decided to add another section to my blog: shop brownponytail’s closet.
ebay is really not doing it for me anymore, and i’d rather sell my stuff to someone who will appreciate it. it’s mostly going to be either unused, new items (impulse buys!), or rarely and very carefully used things.
does anybody have experience with selling clothes via their blog? which payment methods do you use? have you encountered any problems?

back to black

10 Sep

hello lovelies!

with the colder seasons on the horizon, my interest naturally wanders to darker colors. i’m sure yours does too.
let me tell you why i love black. well, it’s actually quite simple: who doesn’t?
not only is black slimming, elegant, timeless and über cool, it is also one of the easiest colors to wear. outfit all in black? why not. don’t know what to wear with this shirt/pants/shoes/bag/jacket? make the missing piece black, and in 99% of the cases you’ll be good to go.
mixing various textures and fabrics in an all-black outfit gives it a stylish edge, and doesn’t give an impression of a boring uniform. plus, any accent of color in the form of jewellery or accessories will pop against the dark “backdrop”.

black beauty- via http://www.fashionising.com

black is (or should be) a staple color in everyone’s wardrobe. you can never have too much black in my opinion. got 8  plain black tees? so what. you’ll wear them.
which brings me to my next point: black shoes. how many pairs of black shoes are enough? two? seven? fifteen?
trick question!
there is no such thing as enough black shoes. am i right ladies and gents? unless you have the same identical pair three times. otherwise, you cannot seriously tell me that a pair of black smooth leather peeptoes are the same as black suede slingback peeptoes? or that black patent pumps count as much as black textured leather stilettos? or that having three different model black ballerinas are too many?! exactly. you can’t.

you might wonder what this post is about (besides my love for black and shoes)… well, it’s about my newest purchase!three pairs of black steve madden shoes.

1. wedge sneakers- yes, i know i just got some, but these are black. and have studs. awesome by default.

model: hamlit

2. boots with a block heel. don’t have one of those, the boots i have are either flat, or with a stiletto type heel. ergo, i needed these.

model: estellle

3. classic elegant pumps. i recently discovered that i mostly have peeptoes in my closet, and that just won’t do. every girl needs a similar pair of pumps, because they go with everything- will dress up jeans and a top, and will work with more elegant or work-related clothes. essential.

model: aspire

which shoes have you bought recently? what is your favorite pair of black footwear?

ciao!

pumped up kicks

23 Aug

All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You’d better run, better run, outrun my gun

if you haven’t guessed by now, this post is about sneakers- more specifically, the 2012 holy grail of shoes: the wedge sneaker!
of course by now everybody knows the designer that started it all, isabel marant. her willow sneakers come in many different colors, and have taken the fashion world by storm!
honestly, when the trend started i really hated the look of these shoes. maybe it’s the velcro straps that make them look like orthopaedic children’s booties- i don’t know, it just didn’t convince me.

isabel marant willow sneakers

and it still doesn’t. by now though, i’ve warmed up to the concept of the wedge sneaker, and -thank the fashion gods- numerous designers followed suit. so it’s been a while that i was on the lookout for the perfect wedge sneaker (which i decided, for me should be with laces, and maybe a top strap- but not necessarily), and found myself browsing innumerous online shops and catalogs. until i stumbled upon the nike website. i was like, what? why did the search bring me to the nike store? because of these babies:

nike dunk sky hi

i died and went to shoe heaven, because these are exactly what i was looking for! i don’t have to tell you how fast my fingers clicked on the “view item” button, right?
the dunk sky hi come in two colors (as far as austria or europe goes, i’ve seen some very colorful ones on google though), and just look so effortlessly casual, that they just might pass for regular nike kicks!
i wasn’t convinced with the navy-white combo (so. much. white.) so i bought the gray-white ones.
when they arrived, i was so happy that i wore them around the house, just for fun (no one has to know i was in my pj’s). i wore them to the office a couple of times, and took them with me to copenhagen as well, they are just really really comfy! here is a pic of my darling kicks- i will wear the hell out of these!

kiko make-up haul

31 Jul

hello lovelies!

i hope everyone has been good!
i just came back from another switzerland trip and remembered that i didn’t finish posting things that happened during my first stay! (this second trip was very short, so nothing to report here.)

what i wanted to tell you about was my fabulous kiko make-up haul from como!

kiko milano is an italian cosmetics company that is distributed throughout europe. their products are qualitatively very high, without the matching price tag. yay!
i love their stuff, it’s easy to apply, lightly scented and the range of products is just huge (sun care!). at the moment they have sales in all shops and online, so check it out :)

i found four shades of nailpolish i absolutely had to have. now, one thing that i miss in kiko products is that they don’t name their things- they assign numbers. which is fine, but i’m a sucker for a cool nailpolish or lipstick name :)

turquoise 389, blue 294, green 296, khaki-gray 346

so cool, right? i’m sure the dark blue will look really awesome with a matte top coat, or with a gold/silver glitter top coat or flecks. i’m curious to see how different the turquoise is from my two essie shades, i think i’ll paint a finger in each color and show you! the khaki-gray is just a perfect pre-fall/fall-winter color that would look cool with any top coat and with any outfit- definitely a shade everyone should have!

next up are lipsticks. i really like wearing lipstick, but don’t favor the shiny/glossy ones, especially in more vivid colors. i have two red mac lipsticks (russian red and lady danger) in matte- which i adore for the red color- it just makes it seem more refined and saturated, don’t you think? so i got two matte lipsticks, one in a red-orange-coral shade, and the other in a shade i can’t define, sorry. help, anyone? the third lippy is a vivid rosy-nude, with a normal shine- perfect for work, or for when the eyes are the focal point- i have a similar mac shade that i love (see sheer), i hope this one is just as nice.

red 288, rosy-nude 11, undefinable 286

i replaced my drying mascara with a new one- i’ve been using luxurious lashes for about 4 months now and i love it! it gives thick, long and curled lashes and comes off with only water. my mac blush is about to run out, so i figured why not get one from kiko? the bloom collection was/is on sale, and i found a perfect blush stick (first timer! anyone with experience with blush sticks?) in a beautiful dark rosy shade called rosy-brown (#5). it’s a lot lighter and more rosy when applied:

rosy-brown blush and luxurious lashes mascara

finally, since they were on sale and i forgot to bring a perfume with me, i bought a body splash that i carefully selected from a choice of 4 scents. one was way too sweet, the other one too jasmin-y, the third too davidoff-cool-water-y, but the fourth was perfect! aqua glam is a mixture of floral scents and spices, is intense but very light- perfect for the hot weather we are having at the moment!

aqua glam scented water

does anyone have these products? care to share your experience with kiko make-up? so far i’ve only ever used the lipsticks, nailpolish and mascara, any reviews of other products are appreciated :)

ciao!

neon como

24 Jul

i was lucky to be raised in a beautiful little spot on earth, that is only 30 minutes away from the italian border.

trips to como were a weekly occurrence, often connected to market and restaurant visits.
como has some amazing restaurants and trattorie that serve pasta in any which way, but also make amazing risottos, meat, chicken and of course- pizza. somehow most of the food seems tastier and lighter when eaten in italy, really! i always feel that the ingredients are fresher, richer and less heavy than say, an italian restaurant somewhere else (with the possible exception of ticino).

but this post is not about food- it’s about the mercato di como, a charming street market which happens 2-3 times a week, usually tuesday and saturday. it’s packed full of clothes, shoes, accessories, makeup, linens and towels- pretty much everything anyone might need, ever.
what caught my eye this time, was the sheer amount of neon clothing offered in almost every stall… in vienna, neon is relatively well spread this summer, from eye-catching accessories, to t-shirts and pants, but i haven’t yet seen anyone dressed head to toe in neon. not even to an 80’s theme party. apparently italians (or maybe it’s just the comaschi?) feel that there can’t be too much neon. in every color. all over.

neon everywhere

as far as the eye reaches

i have a question for you: how much neon is enough neon in your opineon? (puns!)
would/do you  wear neon?

the outfit I wore for the day was comfy and practical, and my nails (rimmel, 270 hot shot) would have given barbie a run for her money:

shorts and top h&m (top with a bit of diy)
