halloween recap

6 Nov

lovelies, i know i promised you my costume pictures on thursday, but who was i kidding, right?
you knew i wouldn’t deliver on time, and i thank you for your understanding, but here we go, that’s me as a witch:

i had to take care of a few things on thursday, before i left for a weekend trip on friday, and didn’t have time to blog- sorry!

the cute hat is from claire’s accessories, the corset i got via amazon. it was a bit uncomfortable, but it looked cool and made my waist tiny- definitely worth it! the peplum skirt is from h&m. (sorry about the picture quality)

one of my favorite things about the costume was how my eye- makeup turned out! i used a liquid gel liner (from deborah milano) to get a cat eye, and then instead of making a mess with unsteady fingers, I used eyeshadow tattoo! unfortunately i can’t remember the brand, but I got it from claire’s as well. it was beyond easy to apply, and looked super cool! my mascara is from kiko.

i used my favorite MAC blusher in desert rose, and russian red lipstick, which i fixed for the evening using lipcote (love that stuff!)
for my nails i used a light silver base coat, topped with a black cracking top coat (both from h&m):

kiko make-up haul

31 Jul

hello lovelies!

i hope everyone has been good!
i just came back from another switzerland trip and remembered that i didn’t finish posting things that happened during my first stay! (this second trip was very short, so nothing to report here.)

what i wanted to tell you about was my fabulous kiko make-up haul from como!

kiko milano is an italian cosmetics company that is distributed throughout europe. their products are qualitatively very high, without the matching price tag. yay!
i love their stuff, it’s easy to apply, lightly scented and the range of products is just huge (sun care!). at the moment they have sales in all shops and online, so check it out :)

i found four shades of nailpolish i absolutely had to have. now, one thing that i miss in kiko products is that they don’t name their things- they assign numbers. which is fine, but i’m a sucker for a cool nailpolish or lipstick name :)

turquoise 389, blue 294, green 296, khaki-gray 346

so cool, right? i’m sure the dark blue will look really awesome with a matte top coat, or with a gold/silver glitter top coat or flecks. i’m curious to see how different the turquoise is from my two essie shades, i think i’ll paint a finger in each color and show you! the khaki-gray is just a perfect pre-fall/fall-winter color that would look cool with any top coat and with any outfit- definitely a shade everyone should have!

next up are lipsticks. i really like wearing lipstick, but don’t favor the shiny/glossy ones, especially in more vivid colors. i have two red mac lipsticks (russian red and lady danger) in matte- which i adore for the red color- it just makes it seem more refined and saturated, don’t you think? so i got two matte lipsticks, one in a red-orange-coral shade, and the other in a shade i can’t define, sorry. help, anyone? the third lippy is a vivid rosy-nude, with a normal shine- perfect for work, or for when the eyes are the focal point- i have a similar mac shade that i love (see sheer), i hope this one is just as nice.

red 288, rosy-nude 11, undefinable 286

i replaced my drying mascara with a new one- i’ve been using luxurious lashes for about 4 months now and i love it! it gives thick, long and curled lashes and comes off with only water. my mac blush is about to run out, so i figured why not get one from kiko? the bloom collection was/is on sale, and i found a perfect blush stick (first timer! anyone with experience with blush sticks?) in a beautiful dark rosy shade called rosy-brown (#5). it’s a lot lighter and more rosy when applied:

finally, since they were on sale and i forgot to bring a perfume with me, i bought a body splash that i carefully selected from a choice of 4 scents. one was way too sweet, the other one too jasmin-y, the third too davidoff-cool-water-y, but the fourth was perfect! aqua glam is a mixture of floral scents and spices, is intense but very light- perfect for the hot weather we are having at the moment!

does anyone have these products? care to share your experience with kiko make-up? so far i’ve only ever used the lipsticks, nailpolish and mascara, any reviews of other products are appreciated :)

ciao!

bratislava and big apple red

25 May

last weekend i was in bratislava visiting my best friend.  we were so lucky with the weather, it was gorgeous!

the main reason i went is the nightlife. not for nothing bratislava is dubbed partyslava– the alcohol and entrances are so cheap! the city is crawling with international people (many big international companies have their european hq in slovakia), but everywhere you go you mainly hear british english. thanks to ryanair and their airfares, bratislava is a super popular place for bachelor/ette parties (as the brits call them: stag and hen nights).

we went to about 4 places on friday night, and ended up at trafo, a fun and crazy club right in the city center. we were home around 4 in the morning, and when we woke up at 1 pm on saturday, we were both nursing a slight hangover. my bff suggested we go chill in the sun, and drink some lemonade (very popular) at leblon, a brazilian churrascaria right by the river. i had lemonade joe, a deliciously refreshing lemonade with cucumber slices, elderflower syrup, limes and soda.

we then walked around town, and ended up strolling by the blue church– or as we call it, the disney church:

by sunday our nails were a mess, so we went to get them done. i fell in love with opi big apple red! such a striking red shade with fuchsia undertones- the perfect red for summer! needless to say, i wanted to get it. when i got back to vienna i looked online for it, and because i was curious about the much acclaimed seche vite i was browsing for that too. i stumbled upon micky nail studio, a new store in vienna that also has an online shop. what makes micky nail studio special is that not only do they carry most collections of opi, they also stock essie, china glaze, seche vite, orly and zoya! if that wasn’t enough, opi and essie are cheaper there than anywhere else i’ve seen. before i knew it, my fingers started clicking, and i checked out a basket of 5 nailpolishes. it happens, right? when the haul arrives, you’ll know it :)

i <3 catrice

11 Mar

i first stumbled upon catrice cosmetics when i was in switzerland. i was looking for cool new nailpolish shades, and was immediately attracted to the catrice stand. brilliant shades, dreamy pastels, elegant nudes- their range is huge, and the prices are amazing! that day i bought a pretty, fresh canary yellow shade, and a basic nude shade.
fast forward a few weeks- it’s three days ago, i was getting a manicure at a salon in vienna, and spotted a catrice nailpolish pot! i excitedly asked the nailgirl where she got it from, and when she told me she got it in hungary, i was really disappointed. i wrote down the name of the polish she used, and was determined to find it the next time i went to switzerland: bloody mary to go, a fresh coral red shade, perfect for the summer months, as most of the reds i have are a bit darker.
when i went home, i googled catrice – just for fun, and entered vienna in the store finder… holy shit, 5 locations found! needless to say i got out of the house right away, in direction dm rotenturmstrasse. oh the joy of finding a fully stocked stand (including the limited edition nymphelia)!!!
i only got nailpolishes this time, because i don’t need any new makeup at the moment, but it’s very reassuring knowing i can stock up on catrice products! they are awesome!
here’s what i got:

my pretty nailpolishes! the yellow and the nude are the ones i got in ch

bloody mary to go is the one i’m wearing right now, its gorgeous! im curious to see how goldfinger will look like, i got it to wear at a friend’s wedding in april, and cannot wait to try it!

these two colors, i mean they symbolize spring! i’m sure the shrimpy color will look fab with a bit of a tan! what i liked most about birdy is that it’s not this deep eggy color that many yellow nailpolishes are, but it’s more canary-fresh, which i think will be a cool eye-catcher!

pimp my shrimp and birdy reloaded

the rosy bunch :) the nude café au lait reminded me of OPI’s barefoot in barcelona, which i’m waiting to get when i go to the states in april… i love the antique rose shade of roosywood, and the romantic non-barbie très chic- will make a good change to the shocking pinks that are to come in spring and summer!

my café au lait at notre dame, welcome to roosywood and karl says très chic

last but not least, a picture of bloody mary to go:

turns out catrice belongs to the same german company as essence, cosnova. essence is also a good brand, but i do prefer catrice, because its products are qualitatively higher. added bonus, they don’t test on animals.
