halloween recap

6 Nov

lovelies, i know i promised you my costume pictures on thursday, but who was i kidding, right?
you knew i wouldn’t deliver on time, and i thank you for your understanding, but here we go, that’s me as a witch:

i had to take care of a few things on thursday, before i left for a weekend trip on friday, and didn’t have time to blog- sorry!

the cute hat is from claire’s accessories, the corset i got via amazon. it was a bit uncomfortable, but it looked cool and made my waist tiny- definitely worth it! the peplum skirt is from h&m. (sorry about the picture quality)

one of my favorite things about the costume was how my eye- makeup turned out! i used a liquid gel liner (from deborah milano) to get a cat eye, and then instead of making a mess with unsteady fingers, I used eyeshadow tattoo! unfortunately i can’t remember the brand, but I got it from claire’s as well. it was beyond easy to apply, and looked super cool! my mascara is from kiko.

i used my favorite MAC blusher in desert rose, and russian red lipstick, which i fixed for the evening using lipcote (love that stuff!)
for my nails i used a light silver base coat, topped with a black cracking top coat (both from h&m):

brushed gold and pastel pink nails

29 Aug

hello lovelies!
so sorry for not being very active at the moment, i have lots to do at work, and as summer goes, it’s quite the busy social period…
but i wanted to show you two colors i’m sporting (well, one was last week):

1. brushed matte gold!
how cool does it look!?

this look is super easy to do: grab your favorite gold (or any metallic color for that matter), and paint two- three coats. it has to be opaque and well covering. then, you just apply a coat of matte top coat (i used essence matte coat, but i’m sure any one will do). i was really surprised how well it turned out, as the gold i used (catrice goldfinger) was very shiny and had lots of pigment. the result was very cool, a brushed matte gold effect- love it! (a bonus: the matte coat dries the nailpolish very quickly!)

2.  (i’m wearing it right now!) is pastel pink from my model’s own pastel collection. i had tried it before, and i really liked it because it achieved a very covering pastel shade- like candy! but this time, i enhanced the color by using a very simple trick… i remember reading somewhere, that if you apply a coat of white nail polish under pastels (or i guess any lighter) colors, it will make the color pop! well it makes sense, really… a white canvas gives a true color, while usually nails are not white… i was so pleased with the result, i’m really glad i tried it!

pre- cleanup… sorry!

the white coat was essie blanc, and as a top coat i used my trusty sèche vite. i don’t know how i used to do it without that stuff, it works like magic! as a base coat i use any clear nailpolish, at the moment my favorite is clear by rimmel- they have a very easy-to-use brush.

weekend trip!

17 Aug

hi lovelies!

i apologize for my silence during this week, it was a very hectic and fast couple of days…

i just want to tell you that as soon as i’m back from copenhagen, i will make it up to you with outfit, nail and baking posts!

ciao guys, see you soon!

kiko make-up haul

31 Jul

hello lovelies!

i hope everyone has been good!
i just came back from another switzerland trip and remembered that i didn’t finish posting things that happened during my first stay! (this second trip was very short, so nothing to report here.)

what i wanted to tell you about was my fabulous kiko make-up haul from como!

kiko milano is an italian cosmetics company that is distributed throughout europe. their products are qualitatively very high, without the matching price tag. yay!
i love their stuff, it’s easy to apply, lightly scented and the range of products is just huge (sun care!). at the moment they have sales in all shops and online, so check it out :)

i found four shades of nailpolish i absolutely had to have. now, one thing that i miss in kiko products is that they don’t name their things- they assign numbers. which is fine, but i’m a sucker for a cool nailpolish or lipstick name :)

turquoise 389, blue 294, green 296, khaki-gray 346

so cool, right? i’m sure the dark blue will look really awesome with a matte top coat, or with a gold/silver glitter top coat or flecks. i’m curious to see how different the turquoise is from my two essie shades, i think i’ll paint a finger in each color and show you! the khaki-gray is just a perfect pre-fall/fall-winter color that would look cool with any top coat and with any outfit- definitely a shade everyone should have!

next up are lipsticks. i really like wearing lipstick, but don’t favor the shiny/glossy ones, especially in more vivid colors. i have two red mac lipsticks (russian red and lady danger) in matte- which i adore for the red color- it just makes it seem more refined and saturated, don’t you think? so i got two matte lipsticks, one in a red-orange-coral shade, and the other in a shade i can’t define, sorry. help, anyone? the third lippy is a vivid rosy-nude, with a normal shine- perfect for work, or for when the eyes are the focal point- i have a similar mac shade that i love (see sheer), i hope this one is just as nice.

red 288, rosy-nude 11, undefinable 286

i replaced my drying mascara with a new one- i’ve been using luxurious lashes for about 4 months now and i love it! it gives thick, long and curled lashes and comes off with only water. my mac blush is about to run out, so i figured why not get one from kiko? the bloom collection was/is on sale, and i found a perfect blush stick (first timer! anyone with experience with blush sticks?) in a beautiful dark rosy shade called rosy-brown (#5). it’s a lot lighter and more rosy when applied:

finally, since they were on sale and i forgot to bring a perfume with me, i bought a body splash that i carefully selected from a choice of 4 scents. one was way too sweet, the other one too jasmin-y, the third too davidoff-cool-water-y, but the fourth was perfect! aqua glam is a mixture of floral scents and spices, is intense but very light- perfect for the hot weather we are having at the moment!

does anyone have these products? care to share your experience with kiko make-up? so far i’ve only ever used the lipsticks, nailpolish and mascara, any reviews of other products are appreciated :)

ciao!

neon como

24 Jul

i was lucky to be raised in a beautiful little spot on earth, that is only 30 minutes away from the italian border.

trips to como were a weekly occurrence, often connected to market and restaurant visits.
como has some amazing restaurants and trattorie that serve pasta in any which way, but also make amazing risottos, meat, chicken and of course- pizza. somehow most of the food seems tastier and lighter when eaten in italy, really! i always feel that the ingredients are fresher, richer and less heavy than say, an italian restaurant somewhere else (with the possible exception of ticino).

but this post is not about food- it’s about the mercato di como, a charming street market which happens 2-3 times a week, usually tuesday and saturday. it’s packed full of clothes, shoes, accessories, makeup, linens and towels- pretty much everything anyone might need, ever.
what caught my eye this time, was the sheer amount of neon clothing offered in almost every stall… in vienna, neon is relatively well spread this summer, from eye-catching accessories, to t-shirts and pants, but i haven’t yet seen anyone dressed head to toe in neon. not even to an 80’s theme party. apparently italians (or maybe it’s just the comaschi?) feel that there can’t be too much neon. in every color. all over.

neon everywhere

as far as the eye reaches

i have a question for you: how much neon is enough neon in your opineon? (puns!)
would/do you  wear neon?

the outfit I wore for the day was comfy and practical, and my nails (rimmel, 270 hot shot) would have given barbie a run for her money:

*zumba*

4 Jul

hola chicas y chicos!

yesterday, i went to my first ever zumba class! i entered the studio trying to keep my expectations low- i’d heard so much about this activity, i didn’t want to play it up in my head and eventually be disappointed. seriously, when people say “omg it was so amazing!”, “it’s like- so much fun!” i would always think along the lines of “people, relax pls… it’s a workout, how much genuine, real fun could it actually be?” turns out it really is so much fun. whilst sweating, trying to keep up with the otherworldly instructor, (seriously, she must be an alien to be so graceful and sexy while teaching a workout) i was grinning like the cheshire cat and laughing for the whole hour. and not only because i felt like these girls

my reflection in the mirror while doing zumba

but also because of the latin music and the general feel-good-vibe of all the girls there- it was awesome!

At first I was like “I’m so gonna make a fool out of myself”, but upon closer inspection, there was a reeeally wide range of capabilities in that studio. Some girls seemed to have been doing zumba for a while, others were even worse off than me (muahaha). But everyone was smiling and laughing, and simply didn’t care. I like it.

the class was mixed! *google pic- not us*

what i liked even more, is the amount of sweat i exuded. and i’m not talking about a glistening forehead- no, this was full on- fuck-it’s-getting-in-my-eyes sweating! for clarification purposes, a list of body parts that sweat when doing zumba:

– face
– neck
– arms
– chest
– stomach
– back
– shoulders
– legs, including knees and shins. Yes, I didn’t know they could sweat either.
– butt

body parts that don’t sweat:

– nails
– ponytail

if you’re looking for a fun, feel-good workout, that doesn’t feel like a workout but like a really hardcore dance class- look no more, and go sign up at your nearest zumba center.

essie turquoise & caicos and mint candy apple

29 Jun

finally a new nail post!
i recently bought two wonderful minty shades, and i wanted to try both of them right away. instant gratification to the max!
let me know what you think of the two shades!

t&c on the left, m-c-a on the right

i thought that painting each hand in a different color, with the contrasting ring finger nail would look cool. and it did! the difference between the two shades is quite distinct, even in the consistency! the more covering pastel mint candy apple has a thicker texture, and i love the light pastel blue. turquoise & caicos is more liquid, i needed three coats to get complete coverage (mint candy apple needed only 2 coats), but it’s so worth the extra effort! the color is a fresh tiffany blue, and both shades are such fun summer colors! these two colors (aswell as corals and oranges) would look awesome with a silver or gold glitter top coat, don’t you think?
have you tried these or similar shades?
what colors do you like to wear most?
