kiko make-up haul

31 Jul

hello lovelies!

i hope everyone has been good!
i just came back from another switzerland trip and remembered that i didn’t finish posting things that happened during my first stay! (this second trip was very short, so nothing to report here.)

what i wanted to tell you about was my fabulous kiko make-up haul from como!

kiko milano is an italian cosmetics company that is distributed throughout europe. their products are qualitatively very high, without the matching price tag. yay!
i love their stuff, it’s easy to apply, lightly scented and the range of products is just huge (sun care!). at the moment they have sales in all shops and online, so check it out :)

i found four shades of nailpolish i absolutely had to have. now, one thing that i miss in kiko products is that they don’t name their things- they assign numbers. which is fine, but i’m a sucker for a cool nailpolish or lipstick name :)

turquoise 389, blue 294, green 296, khaki-gray 346

so cool, right? i’m sure the dark blue will look really awesome with a matte top coat, or with a gold/silver glitter top coat or flecks. i’m curious to see how different the turquoise is from my two essie shades, i think i’ll paint a finger in each color and show you! the khaki-gray is just a perfect pre-fall/fall-winter color that would look cool with any top coat and with any outfit- definitely a shade everyone should have!

next up are lipsticks. i really like wearing lipstick, but don’t favor the shiny/glossy ones, especially in more vivid colors. i have two red mac lipsticks (russian red and lady danger) in matte- which i adore for the red color- it just makes it seem more refined and saturated, don’t you think? so i got two matte lipsticks, one in a red-orange-coral shade, and the other in a shade i can’t define, sorry. help, anyone? the third lippy is a vivid rosy-nude, with a normal shine- perfect for work, or for when the eyes are the focal point- i have a similar mac shade that i love (see sheer), i hope this one is just as nice.

red 288, rosy-nude 11, undefinable 286

i replaced my drying mascara with a new one- i’ve been using luxurious lashes for about 4 months now and i love it! it gives thick, long and curled lashes and comes off with only water. my mac blush is about to run out, so i figured why not get one from kiko? the bloom collection was/is on sale, and i found a perfect blush stick (first timer! anyone with experience with blush sticks?) in a beautiful dark rosy shade called rosy-brown (#5). it’s a lot lighter and more rosy when applied:

rosy-brown blush and luxurious lashes mascara

finally, since they were on sale and i forgot to bring a perfume with me, i bought a body splash that i carefully selected from a choice of 4 scents. one was way too sweet, the other one too jasmin-y, the third too davidoff-cool-water-y, but the fourth was perfect! aqua glam is a mixture of floral scents and spices, is intense but very light- perfect for the hot weather we are having at the moment!

aqua glam scented water

does anyone have these products? care to share your experience with kiko make-up? so far i’ve only ever used the lipsticks, nailpolish and mascara, any reviews of other products are appreciated :)

ciao!

neon como

24 Jul

i was lucky to be raised in a beautiful little spot on earth, that is only 30 minutes away from the italian border.

trips to como were a weekly occurrence, often connected to market and restaurant visits.
como has some amazing restaurants and trattorie that serve pasta in any which way, but also make amazing risottos, meat, chicken and of course- pizza. somehow most of the food seems tastier and lighter when eaten in italy, really! i always feel that the ingredients are fresher, richer and less heavy than say, an italian restaurant somewhere else (with the possible exception of ticino).

but this post is not about food- it’s about the mercato di como, a charming street market which happens 2-3 times a week, usually tuesday and saturday. it’s packed full of clothes, shoes, accessories, makeup, linens and towels- pretty much everything anyone might need, ever.
what caught my eye this time, was the sheer amount of neon clothing offered in almost every stall… in vienna, neon is relatively well spread this summer, from eye-catching accessories, to t-shirts and pants, but i haven’t yet seen anyone dressed head to toe in neon. not even to an 80’s theme party. apparently italians (or maybe it’s just the comaschi?) feel that there can’t be too much neon. in every color. all over.

neon everywhere

as far as the eye reaches

i have a question for you: how much neon is enough neon in your opineon? (puns!)
would/do you  wear neon?

the outfit I wore for the day was comfy and practical, and my nails (rimmel, 270 hot shot) would have given barbie a run for her money:

shorts and top h&m (top with a bit of diy)

vacation report I – ticino

16 Jul

hello lovelies!

sorry for my absence, it’s been a somewhat stressy couple of days, but now i can finally unwind- i’m on vacation in switzerland in ticino, where i grew up. so many memories! this place is beautiful, every time i come back i’m reminded of how blessed i was growing up in this little patch of heaven.

look, this is the view from my bedroom window- i want to add that the window takes up 3/4 of the wall, top to bottom, so it’s quite an impressive sight at any time of day:

i arrived saturday around noon, flew from vienna to zürich and then took the train to bellinzona. bellinzona is one of the bigger towns in the canton ticino- the italian side of switzerland (most southern part, bordering with italy), and it is known for its three majestic castles. the flight was so early, i had to get up at 4.15 am- pure torture! yuki wasn’t happy about having his night interrupted either, he just kept observing me from my pillow while i was getting ready- it took a lot of willpower not to get back to bed:

yesterday we went to have lunch at an amazing grotto (not what hugh hefner has- a grotto in italian is a small rustic restaurant) in montagnola, a suburb of lugano situated on a hill over the lake- beautiful area! pictures and a report to follow. fun facts about montagnola: the writer hermann hesse used to live here, and george harrison (the beatles) used to spend his summers there in his mansion.
we also passed by tasis, my high school, and needless to say the memories almost got me choked up! the campus became so much bigger and impressive! i can’t wait to meet some of my friends that now work there as summer camp tutors!

hope everyone is having a great weekend!

oh and this is a pic of one of my favorite tshirts, it’s from mango. i’ve worn it with a very unimpressive jeans and sneakers combo, that’s why it’s not with the previous pictures (cardigan is from review):

isn’t it cool?

which are your favorite (or not favorite) outfits i’ve worn? which would you wear to the office?

work outfits of the days – nails and accessories

9 May

from the title you can deduce that i decided to break it up into two posts, so that it doesn’t get too long.

without further ado, i give you the nails:

model’s own polishes

these are the colors that i was telling you about in a previous post – i couldn’t wait to try them one by one,  so i did them all (but the blue, i opted for turquoise because i wanted to see what it looked like). my favorites are the yellow and the pink, they are the two that are pastelliest… the orange is pretty, but normal, like i wouldn’t call it pastel orange, same with the lilac and turquoise- very pretty, but not light enough to be truly pastels.

the rings:

arabic calligraphy ring

got this in egypt at one of the many silver jewellery stores.

cameo brooch ring

what makes this cameo ring special is that even though it has rhinestones, it’s not tacky!

feline face ring

this was an awesome find at american vintage, a thrift store in huntington beach.

thomas sabo butterfly charm

a gift, so pretty and filigrane!

LV belt, Melissa Agnoletti necklace

this belt is actually the belt part of a vintage louis vuitton fanny pack (like the one the employees wear in the store, but vintage). i wear the bag part as a clutch, and the strap as a belt. the necklace is by melissa agnoletti, an italian accessories designer that is all the rage at the moment.that’s it for the accessories part, stay tuned for the outfits!
