guilt

9 Jul

yes! ok! you got me! i’m guilty!

my guilt box is plenty full!

my guilt box is plenty full!

why, you ask?
well, because i just saw that my last post was in january!
shameful. hopeless. bad.
i know!
32465566i’m sorry. so so so sorry. if i were a dog, this is what i would look like right now

i am denver. denver is me.

i am denver. denver is me.

i will not let it happen again, i promise. you know what the worst part is? i’ve actually been photo-documenting everything noteworthy, so that i can blog about it.
without wanting to bore you about being uninspired, i’ll just blame life again. ha! yes, life has handed me quite a few cards- taken away some, and then dished out some more. so there, that’s why i haven’t been blogging. oh yeah, and the weather (the weather is always a great scapegoat). it has been so nice outside these past weeks, that i really barely use the computer. so there. mobile blogging? oh right, i have that too… ok well then here: my phone battery always runs out too fast! ha! ha! gotcha.

in case you don’t know who denver is, you need to watch this gem:

shoemanic

30 Nov

lovelies, i need to confess that i have a shoe addiction.
the thing that gives me great strength, is knowing that i am not alone with my condition.
but at least i’ve come to admitting it. that’s the first step, isn’t it?

i honestly don’t know how many pairs of shoes i own. but i do know that it’s still in the double digits… i think… no, it is. maybe i should get down to counting them some day. but then again i might really freak out and recoil in horror at the sheer number of shoes that will be laying around the floor.
ah i dream of the day, when i can have a whole room just for my shoes. or a room big enough to fit my shoes and my clothes. just looking at some of the shoe closets of some celebrities makes me want my own even more!
take a look:

rachel zoe’s shoe closet

khloe kardashian’s shoe closet (that’s not even all of it!)

christina aguilera’s closet (home to about 750 pairs!)

just wow, right?
i can fit in my closet just about the shoes needed for spring/summer and fall/winter respectively. it has a couple of top shelves that are really high up, so i stow away the unseasonal ones up there. however, it is still a bit of a pain, because i do have to really wedge every pair in there, and stack them on top of eachother…  here is a picture of my closet during spring/summer. you can actually see my timberlands and winter sneakers in the top part, below and behind them are boots and uggs.

not much space left…

of course it doesn’t help that i wear a size 41- my shoes are by default quite big! that is probably a reason why i do have so many shoes, because my size is a bit harder to find, when i do spot one that fits, i pounce!
i made a bet with myself, that for the whole month of october i wouldn’t shop for anything. ruthlessly nothing. and you know what? i did it! i went an entire month without buying so much as a t-shirt, nothing! i rewarded myself by buying a pair of shoes in the first november week. bam!

so pretty, couldn’t just leave them. no.

now that i’ve shared my main addiction (yes, there’s a couple of minor ones that involve bags and jeans…), i want to hear from you! what can’t you resist buying?

hiatus over

23 Oct

lovelies- my hiatus is done.

i promise.

this past month, i’ve been absent from the blogosphere because of… well, life actually.
i’ve had friends visiting, work keeping me busy and uninspired, general writer’s block, books i’ve been reading, and been hanging out with friends. all activities that had me invest my time, leaving no room for sitting at the computer.

don’t think that i haven’t been thinking of you though! oh no. i’ve been diligently taking pictures, baking and cooking, so that i can show you what i’ve been up to this past month.

stay tuned for the next posts, in the meantime, here’s a picture of yuki at dinner last night. he’s fancy like that.

a book a week

10 Jul

about two months ago, on my way to work my ipod died. the silly battery ran out, and i was in the middle of my commute. shit! i hate when that happens, especially because the battery status was half full when i left home. then again, my ipod is a little older and it’s been surprising me in this way quite often lately.

still, didn’t change the fact that i was music-less and forced to look out of the window, listening to people’s conversations. damn i wish i had something to entertain me- believe it or not, the lady next to me recounting her dog’s grooming appointment to her sister was not so thrilling.

the next day, after having endured the commute back without something distracting me from the atrocious body odours surrounding me, i realized before i left home that i forgot to charge my ipod. seriously, brain?! really? whatevs- i spotted my pile of “not read yet” books, grabbed the first one and dashed out the door.
pile of books you say? why, yes. ever since i learned how to read, i’ve been an avid book devourer. i’m kind of proud of my ability to read a book in depth in little time. reading is one of my favorite pastimes- i rarely go to sleep before having read a few pages! my guilty pleasure? well ok, one of many… opening, smelling and reading old books. there’s something very comforting about the yellowness and smell of old pages…
anyhow, back to my story: i started reading that first book from the pile (you’re the one that i don’t want by alexandra potter) while commuting, and was happy to find it a much more rewarding entertainment than listening to music, because i didn’t even have to look at anybody. ha!
turns out that with the commuting pace, i finished the book in a working week. the next week, i picked up the next book from the pile (good girls don’t… by victoria dahl), and so on.

so far i’ve read two more novels by alexandra potter, what’s new pussycat and going la la, the gift by cecelia ahern, something from tiffany’s by melissa hill, i heart london by lindsey kelk (the latest of the i heart series!) and i’ve just started the second book of the all souls trilogy by deborah harkness, shadow of night.
i might make an exception of shadow of night, because it’s such a compelling story, and the book is huge- i doubt two sets of 30 minutes a day will be enough to finish it in a week.

in the house that i imagine myself living in at a later stage in life, i will definitely have a reading niche, preferably an inbuilt one like these:

how amazing are these reading spaces? i can just picture myself sprawled in the niche for hours, with a cup of tea or hot chocolate, reading to my heart’s content.

loki and loki

2 Jul

loki the god of mischief would be incredibly proud to know that he shares his name with my cat loki.
we named her loki because she reminds us so much of what he represents… ironically, tom hiddleston is exactly the loki we had in mind- they even have the same eyes:

loki and loki

here are a few more examples of how my kitty looks like tom hiddleston’s loki:

see what i mean?
do your cats and dogs resemble any characters or people?
here are a couple more pictures of my loki- i mentioned in a previous post that she is half bengal half european short hair; notice how her ears, eyes, dots and face look a bit exotic, giving her the appearance of a little wildcat :)

“feed me” – mornings with whiney cats

13 Jun

pretty much yuki’s daily plan of action to make sure he doesn’t starve.
not that he would starve if i wouldn’t feed him for a day or two- kitty got some spare jiggle!

from the moment i wake up and my feet touch the floor, he starts meowing, reminding me that “oh yes- he’s hungry!”

he follows me to the bathroom. hops on the sink while i wash my face- god forbid i don’t hear him sitting on the floor! brush my teeth with a constant, slightly louder meow in my ear. my toothbrush is electric, so he’s again making sure i can hear him over the buzzing noise.
me: bunny! it’s ok, i’ll feed you! let me get dressed and we’ll go, ok?
yuki: waaaaa! waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
oh yeah, it’s not an enunciated “meow” anymore. the sound he is producing at this stage is more like a baby’s wail. long, loud and piercing.

yuki follows me all the way around the room becoming less and less patient. he shows his disapproval of my slowness by reaching an acoustic level that drowns out my radio.
have you had a hungry cat scream at you before? trust me, you want to feed it asap, or you will most likely go nuts.

at this stage i’m threatening him- i’m not taking any of his feline bitching anymore!
me: listen to me, cat! if you don’t shut up now, i’m not feeding you! you hear?!
yuki: … moww… WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!
me: i’m being serious! when have i ever not fed you?! shut up! you don’t see cookie and loki being annoying! they know that i’ll feed them! you know it! so shut it!
yuki: waaa waaaaa WAAAAAAAA!
we don’t get anywhere with these conversations. it’s frustrating, to say the least.

i try to stare him down. he’s not impressed. just stares back and voices his disapproval of why he *still* hasn’t been fed.
i sigh. i give up. i walk towards the kitchen led by one very hungry kitty and followed by two other slightly less hungry kitties.
