shoemanic

30 Nov

lovelies, i need to confess that i have a shoe addiction.
the thing that gives me great strength, is knowing that i am not alone with my condition.
but at least i’ve come to admitting it. that’s the first step, isn’t it?

i honestly don’t know how many pairs of shoes i own. but i do know that it’s still in the double digits… i think… no, it is. maybe i should get down to counting them some day. but then again i might really freak out and recoil in horror at the sheer number of shoes that will be laying around the floor.
ah i dream of the day, when i can have a whole room just for my shoes. or a room big enough to fit my shoes and my clothes. just looking at some of the shoe closets of some celebrities makes me want my own even more!
take a look:

rachel zoe’s shoe closet

khloe kardashian’s shoe closet (that’s not even all of it!)

christina aguilera’s closet (home to about 750 pairs!)

just wow, right?
i can fit in my closet just about the shoes needed for spring/summer and fall/winter respectively. it has a couple of top shelves that are really high up, so i stow away the unseasonal ones up there. however, it is still a bit of a pain, because i do have to really wedge every pair in there, and stack them on top of eachother…  here is a picture of my closet during spring/summer. you can actually see my timberlands and winter sneakers in the top part, below and behind them are boots and uggs.

not much space left…

of course it doesn’t help that i wear a size 41- my shoes are by default quite big! that is probably a reason why i do have so many shoes, because my size is a bit harder to find, when i do spot one that fits, i pounce!
i made a bet with myself, that for the whole month of october i wouldn’t shop for anything. ruthlessly nothing. and you know what? i did it! i went an entire month without buying so much as a t-shirt, nothing! i rewarded myself by buying a pair of shoes in the first november week. bam!

so pretty, couldn’t just leave them. no.

now that i’ve shared my main addiction (yes, there’s a couple of minor ones that involve bags and jeans…), i want to hear from you! what can’t you resist buying?

fall wootds- moccasins

22 Nov

lovelies, i know it’s been a while that i haven’t posted any outfits, so i’m going to make up for it now, by breaking up about 15 outfits into smaller posts.
i still have some fall outfits i want to show you, some are from early fall, and some are more wintery- unfortunately the weather decided to fast forward through autumn, and we’ve had about 2 weeks of mild weather, then straight to real cold.

i noticed that one of my favorite fall items were my minnetonka moccasins, they are so comfortable and cool, i’ve tried wearing them with pretty much everything! since today is thanksgiving (happy thanksgiving everyone!), i thought it would be a cool first post, you know, with the indians wearing moccasins and all :)

jacket: h&m
dress: h&m
shoes: minnetonka

cardigan: ellison
t-shirt: new yorker
jeggings: james jeans
shoes: minnetonka

jacket: zara
scarf: mango
cardigan: h&m
t-shirt: mango
jeans: zara
shoes: mango (black moccasins, with studs- sorry the pic is so shitty!)
bag: bcbg

jacket: h&m
sweater: h&m
jeans: zara
shoes: minnetonka
bag: LV

you will notice that the moccasins aren’t the only recurring item in the fall outfits, my h&m (light) parka has been one of the most versatile things i’ve ever bought. i’ve worn the crap out of it- the model, cut, material and color make it perfect over pretty much anything- i was so sad when i stowed it away, but i can’t wait to get it out again in spring!

back to black

10 Sep

hello lovelies!

with the colder seasons on the horizon, my interest naturally wanders to darker colors. i’m sure yours does too.
let me tell you why i love black. well, it’s actually quite simple: who doesn’t?
not only is black slimming, elegant, timeless and über cool, it is also one of the easiest colors to wear. outfit all in black? why not. don’t know what to wear with this shirt/pants/shoes/bag/jacket? make the missing piece black, and in 99% of the cases you’ll be good to go.
mixing various textures and fabrics in an all-black outfit gives it a stylish edge, and doesn’t give an impression of a boring uniform. plus, any accent of color in the form of jewellery or accessories will pop against the dark “backdrop”.

black is (or should be) a staple color in everyone’s wardrobe. you can never have too much black in my opinion. got 8  plain black tees? so what. you’ll wear them.
which brings me to my next point: black shoes. how many pairs of black shoes are enough? two? seven? fifteen?
trick question!
there is no such thing as enough black shoes. am i right ladies and gents? unless you have the same identical pair three times. otherwise, you cannot seriously tell me that a pair of black smooth leather peeptoes are the same as black suede slingback peeptoes? or that black patent pumps count as much as black textured leather stilettos? or that having three different model black ballerinas are too many?! exactly. you can’t.

you might wonder what this post is about (besides my love for black and shoes)… well, it’s about my newest purchase!three pairs of black steve madden shoes.

1. wedge sneakers- yes, i know i just got some, but these are black. and have studs. awesome by default.

model: hamlit

2. boots with a block heel. don’t have one of those, the boots i have are either flat, or with a stiletto type heel. ergo, i needed these.

model: estellle

3. classic elegant pumps. i recently discovered that i mostly have peeptoes in my closet, and that just won’t do. every girl needs a similar pair of pumps, because they go with everything- will dress up jeans and a top, and will work with more elegant or work-related clothes. essential.

model: aspire

which shoes have you bought recently? what is your favorite pair of black footwear?

ciao!

welcome, autumn!

6 Sep

hello lovelies!

happy september, and all the wonderful things autumn brings with it!

although fall doesn’t officially start until the 22nd of september, many are already mourning the demise of the summer season. you know, i was amongst them. my summer passed by so incredibly fast, and i didn’t even get a chance to fully enjoy it (i blame work!)! i went swimming about 3-4 times, and can honestly say that this is the least tanned i’ve ever been. like ever. boooo

i love wearing summer clothes- colorful dresses, cute tops and shorts, skirts and sandals- it was only normal that i was kind of saddened by september coming along so soon.

however, i quickly changed my mind while browsing pinterest. almost every second pin was an autumn inspiration outfit, and it was just enough to trigger my fondness for boots, cardigans, shawls and leather jackets…

fall essentials!

effortlessly glam!

so cozy!

oh my darling darling fall clothes, fret not, because i cannot wait to wear you very very soon!
i think that in the course of the next couple of weeks, i’ll be slowly transferring my extremely summery wardrobe to the unreachable heights of the closet– a special place where the out-of-season clothes go to rest, until they are needed again. neons and crazy colorful pieces are probably the candidates to be banished to the heights first, so that i can still incorporate some not-so-in-your-face summer things into early autumn outfits, but then i’m guessing that by mid-october i will have a purely fall/winter wardrobe again…

Not too long now, beloved boots, not too long…

pumped up kicks

23 Aug

All the other kids with the pumped up kicks
You’d better run, better run, outrun my gun

if you haven’t guessed by now, this post is about sneakers- more specifically, the 2012 holy grail of shoes: the wedge sneaker!
of course by now everybody knows the designer that started it all, isabel marant. her willow sneakers come in many different colors, and have taken the fashion world by storm!
honestly, when the trend started i really hated the look of these shoes. maybe it’s the velcro straps that make them look like orthopaedic children’s booties- i don’t know, it just didn’t convince me.

and it still doesn’t. by now though, i’ve warmed up to the concept of the wedge sneaker, and -thank the fashion gods- numerous designers followed suit. so it’s been a while that i was on the lookout for the perfect wedge sneaker (which i decided, for me should be with laces, and maybe a top strap- but not necessarily), and found myself browsing innumerous online shops and catalogs. until i stumbled upon the nike website. i was like, what? why did the search bring me to the nike store? because of these babies:

nike dunk sky hi

i died and went to shoe heaven, because these are exactly what i was looking for! i don’t have to tell you how fast my fingers clicked on the “view item” button, right?
the dunk sky hi come in two colors (as far as austria or europe goes, i’ve seen some very colorful ones on google though), and just look so effortlessly casual, that they just might pass for regular nike kicks!
i wasn’t convinced with the navy-white combo (so. much. white.) so i bought the gray-white ones.
when they arrived, i was so happy that i wore them around the house, just for fun (no one has to know i was in my pj’s). i wore them to the office a couple of times, and took them with me to copenhagen as well, they are just really really comfy! here is a pic of my darling kicks- i will wear the hell out of these!

copenhagen distortion and circus confetti

30 May

i hate that work takes all my blogging energy away. i’m left in the evening with no strength to do anything anymore. i literally hurl myself onto the couch and don’t move except for getting food. the last tidbits are spared for transferring my exhausted body to the bathroom for the evening routine, and finally- propel myself into my bed.
so so sad.

not today! today, my dearest readers, i will stay up late! for what? packing!
i’ve taken thursday and friday off work, to attend the wonderful copenhagen distortion – a block party so awesome, it lasts four days. set smack- right in the city center of wonderful copenhagen, this party is epic. my best friend and i went already last year, and promised eachother we’d do it again. and again.

last year we were blessed with fantastic weather- sadly, the forecast for the following days doesn’t look so nice, but whatever! fuck you weather, we don’t need your cooperation to party!
that’s right.

my biggest dilemma right now is the ever-recurring, perpetual question of: “what will i wear?”
ok… so there is a 30-50% chance of rain for pretty much all four days, and the temperatures will be in the mid-high-teens (celsius) during the day, and around 8°c at night. not toasty, but not fuck-i’m-freezing either.
the plan is to take one pair of jeans (ripped), and one other pair of pants. i think it’ll be my gray jeans. a pair of tights, jeans-shorts or skirt, and a bunch of t-shirts and sweaters/hoodies. footwear has to be practical: black wellies and my black-and-gold reebok high tops. i don’t know yet which jacket or coat i will end up taking… it has to be something that won’t get me wet… maybe i’ll stop by h&m in the morning and scout for wind/rainbreakers.
what are your suggestions for bad-weather festival/party/concert attire? what are your favorite clothing items you always take with you to an event?

i have a special plan for my nails. while in bratislava i bought a very cool nailpolish from essence, 02 circus confetti – a multicolored and multi-shaped glitter top coat:

circus confetti!

as a base coat i used the clear polish (colour&go, dries super fast) and the gel-look polish as a top. it looked really cool, even on natural nails. the vision for my distortion nails is circus confetti over either a white base, or the light bluey-minty catrice sold out forever. which do you think would look better? white or blue-mint?

home sweet home

15 Apr

i’m finally back home, and cannot wait to get into my wonderful bed. my bed and i share a deep connection- no one can comfort me like my beloved bed.

a little bit of news that i didn’t share yet: tomorrow is my first day at a new job! i’ll be working in the communications department of one of the biggest banks here in austria. muy exciting! in honor of that, i think i’ll add another outfit category: work outfit of the day(s).
right now i still don’t know what i’m wearing tomorrow, but i think i will go with a blue jeans-blouse-blazer combo. there is no dresscode there, so i think going with something casual but semi-formal is appropriate for a first day… what do you think? what did you wear on your first day at work?

on friday, my best friend and i got our nails done while we were still in huntington beach, and i made it a point to choose the perfect shade for “newbie at work” mode. something cute, simple but not boring. i chose opi’s sparrow me the drama, from the pirates of the caribbean collection – a pretty, opaque antique rose shade- but fresh, not like the color you see on old houses.

this picture is not my hand, it’s from google- i don’t have time right now to move the pics from the camera to the pc, but i’ll do it tomorrow, promise :)

i will also show you my finds from a thrift store, and the cool things i bought on this trip!

toodles for now!
