april weekend

30 Apr

hello lovelies!

i really hope you had an amazing weekend! mine was beautifully relaxing… we’ve had incredible weather over the last week, and the weekend just topped it all off with temperatures up to 30°C!

i spent the entire saturday reading at stadtpark (vienna’s “central park”), enjoying the sun, the grass, the birds chirping- it was divine! i started and finished the first book of the hunger games trilogy that day, and i’m hooked! i even brought the second one with me to work, so that i can read during breaks.

how dreamy is this garden? to anyone that is planning to visit vienna, stadtpark is a must see!
when i wasn’t at the park, i was with my friends at brunch or at the movies (american pie reunion!).i haven’t felt this rested in a long time, and i can’t wait to repeat the drill tomorrow again, because it’s national day! which equals holiday, and the sun approves.here a few glimpses of life at home on a lazy sunday morning

post birthday report

26 Apr

26. that’s how old i am right now.

on the 24th of april, i turned a year older- probably not much wiser yet though…
i’m lucky enough to share my birthday with my best friend, even though she is a year older muahaha-ha, so we usually manage to throw a party or get a dinner event going.

this year, we celebrated at frank’s american restaurant with a small group of close friends. the special thing about frank’s is that it’s huge, and the menu is varied and everything (no seriously, everything!) is delicious- oh and they serve fantastic cocktails!

my starter was a flavorful mushroom crostini dish (similar to a bruschetta), and my main course was a luscious cheeseburger with a side of rough-cut fries and onion rings. can anyone tell i’m missing being in the states? :)
the whole evening through i drank cool water, a cocktail based on gin and blue curacao, with lemon, soda and sugar- it was like drinking a swimming pool, so fun!
my brother organized a surprise dessert, two warm soft chocolate cakes, that had a soufflé- like lava center! they came with vanilla ice cream and raspberry coulis- heavenly!

the evening couldn’t have been better, we laughed so hard at times, i thought we were going to get kicked out for being so noisy! i got lots of wonderful presents- let’s say that i will be very clean and awesome smelling for the next 6 months at least, i got so many amazing bath and body products! i also got the hunger games trilogy, a beautiful moleskine and pen, a spa voucher (thank you brother!) and other very useful stuff.

unfortunately, as with all good things, the day came to an end. and i fell into a pit of blue-ness.

sad birthday cat is sad

why is my phone so silent? gone were the calls, texts, bbms and facebook notifications that have followed me at very regular intervals throughout the day.
and then my brain started working overtime: god you’re so old now, you’re past 25! look at you, single and at yet another new job. what about your grand plan, hm? in the grand scheme, you should be slowly settling down with someone, if you want to get married before you’re 30. you need to go buy wrinkle cream soon. one more year and you are officially not considered a “student” anymore. hey, in 4 years you’ll be 30. you get the gist, no?

so i said, fuck you brain! yes i just started another job, and yes i’m single- so what? i’m happy and healthy, have wonderful friends and a loving, supporting family. that’s more than some younger people can say for themselves.
so, in the wise words of barney stinson, i stopped being sad and became awesome instead.

and now i can really enjoy my presents, make plans for the year, throw myself into my new job, go shopping with all the money i will be making, travel, and relish in the freedom i have right at this moment.
26 is not old. hell, it’s actually going to be an awesome year.

forgotten outfits of the days

22 Apr

right, so here are two outfits that i had totally forgotten about!

both were worn in march, when the weather was so beautiful for a few days (unlike now, a month later it’s raining and cold again- boooo! )

colored layers

overshirt: h&m
top: zara
jeans: 7 for all mankind
shoes: chloé
bag: louis vuitton
bracelet: fossil

i got the fossil bracelet as an early birthday present from my mom’s friend… i was so touched that she got me something so special and beautiful! i’m actually thinking of getting the key tattooed on my ribcage, but instead of the butterfly, the cat design i showed you in an earlier post… what do you think?

top: zara
jeans: stradivarius
shoes: wittner australia
bag: louis vuitton

can i just say that i absolutely am in love with my shiny silver brogues? they are too cute, and such a statement! when i found the gray shirt with the metallic underweave at zara, i had to have it- my mind already paired it with the shoes. no brainer!

first day of work outfit

21 Apr

hello lovelies!
in an earlier post i mentioned that i started a new job this week, so this post is super late- sorry!
before settling for an outfit, i looked around online to get inspired, and i was happy to see that most “first day at work” outfits were relatively similar, and more or less what i had in mind. i stumbled across Amanda’s blog, and i absolutely love her style! so i was thrilled when her “first day at work” combo, looked so similar to what i had picked out for myself:

amanda's outfit

my only internal debate was whether to wear heels or flats… i wore heels to my interview, to give me the self confidence to be awesome, but i didn’t know whether they would make me uncomfortable if i wore them all day. i’m relatively tall, so when i wear heels i usually am taller than most girls, so since i didn’t really want to stick out, i opted for flats. here’s what i wore:

blazer: mango
shirt: vero moda
jeans: kate moss for topshop
shoes: asos
necklace: thrift store in Sydney

what did you guys wear on your first day of work?

my white noise

20 Apr

i sleep better when there’s a cat presence in my bed. there’s something about slowly drifting into unconsciousness, gently lulled into letting go of everything  by the wonderful white noise that is purring.

usually, there are two purr frequencies around me: yuki’s soft, vibrating, low purr, and loki’s loud, intense and comforting purr. cookie rarely sleeps on the bed, she prefers the nearby couch, shearling rug by the bed, or the scratching post pad across the room, but i can still hear her melodious, low, dove-like sounding purr.

goodmeowrning!

people who let their pets sleep in their bed will agree with me on this one: it’s awesome. the feeling of comfort and soothing that an animal presence brings, enables an extremely relaxed and carefree sleeping experience.

a friend once asked me if i ever thought about the possibility of squishing a cat while rolling over in my sleep… i just smiled and answered no. as anyone who has cats knows, a sleeping cat in your bed is like a little boulder. if you roll against it, you will wake up, but the cat probably won’t! it’s fascinating how that little (or sometimes big) body can be such an imposing presence in density!

i highly recommend anyone to give it a try- trust me, fur on your bed is a very small price to pay for a good night’s sleep :)

food overload

18 Apr

i will be documenting my trip to the states by categories: food, stuff i got, and locations. i think this will make it easier to post about this awesome trip :)

first off of course, the foooood! we ate so much during these 9 days, but we don’t regret a single bite, everything was beyond delicious!
we had a running joke : “if in doubt, then always avocado” it was kind of like our theme food. we had it at every breakfast, and sometimes in sandwiches too- we just couldn’t get enough of the stuff!

in my scottsdale post there’s a picture of the bird, this insane omelette filled with turkey, pepperjack cheese, mushrooms, and of course- avocado. here’s another picture of it:

the bird is the word

it came with a side of fruit and potatoes, and it was just an explosion of flavors and tastiness! i had it every day for breakfast. not ashamed to admit it. the place we had this amazing treat at is breakfast club. needless to say that we highly recommend stopping by for the bird and a glass of super awesome cold tasty orange juice.

at our friend’s wedding, we had the chance to taste some crazy yummy cake pops, the groom was a smooth oreo cake, and the bride a velvety sugar butter cake. they were almost too cute to eat, but so delicious, one couldn’t resist!

bride and groom cake pops

since the bride is american, and the groom austrian, the dinner buffet was an original mix of both cultures: wienerschnitzel and potato salad, and mini burgers accompanied by mac’n’cheese. there was also a delicious salad, which unfortunately i didn’t take a picture of, baby spinach leaves, croutons, dried cranberries and cheese.

mini burgers and *le mac'n'cheese in a martini glass

at olive & ivy i had an incredibly good lemonade. i know, lemonade, right? what could be so special about it? well, it was the perfect mix of zesty, sweet, fruity and minty. deeeelish! unfortunately we didn’t eat anything there, we were still stuffed from our stint at breakfast club, but the food looked amazing!

lemonade and gold glitter polish

one evening we were so tired that we decided that it was time for pizza hut. i crave pizza hut, all the time! most probably because we don’t really have it in europe, only in a couple of cities, so wherever i go to a place that has the hut, i don’t leave till i’ve had one awesome pie :)

vegetarian pizza deliciousness

we left arizona after five days, and went to huntington beach in california, and continued our food bonanza there, with the best burger ever. no joke, 25° (degrees) on walnut street has the juiciest, tastiest, lushest burgers. and incredible sweet potato fries aswell.

like manna from heaven

our usual breakfast spot became the sugar shack on main street, where we would get our daily avocado fix in a breakfast burrito. i had never heard of this, but after trying it, i wondered how i could live without it! a soft tortilla, wrapped around an omelette with mushrooms, pepperjack cheese and caramelized onions, that hugs huge chunks of avocado. it blew my mind!

breakfast burrito goodness

i also couldnt leave the states without having had my beloved cherry coke

home sweet home

15 Apr

i’m finally back home, and cannot wait to get into my wonderful bed. my bed and i share a deep connection- no one can comfort me like my beloved bed.

a little bit of news that i didn’t share yet: tomorrow is my first day at a new job! i’ll be working in the communications department of one of the biggest banks here in austria. muy exciting! in honor of that, i think i’ll add another outfit category: work outfit of the day(s).
right now i still don’t know what i’m wearing tomorrow, but i think i will go with a blue jeans-blouse-blazer combo. there is no dresscode there, so i think going with something casual but semi-formal is appropriate for a first day… what do you think? what did you wear on your first day at work?

on friday, my best friend and i got our nails done while we were still in huntington beach, and i made it a point to choose the perfect shade for “newbie at work” mode. something cute, simple but not boring. i chose opi’s sparrow me the drama, from the pirates of the caribbean collection – a pretty, opaque antique rose shade- but fresh, not like the color you see on old houses.

this picture is not my hand, it’s from google- i don’t have time right now to move the pics from the camera to the pc, but i’ll do it tomorrow, promise :)

i will also show you my finds from a thrift store, and the cool things i bought on this trip!

toodles for now!
